The Questions That Matter

Every Thursday, a question arrives in your inbox: What does it mean to flourish when the tools keep changing?

The Leonum Institute examines artificial intelligence and emerging technologies through a lens ground in the Catholic intellectual tradition—not to baptize every innovation, nor to retreat from technological change, but to think carefully about what these tools ask of us and what they make possible.

We write for anyone who suspects that the most interesting questions about AI aren’t primarily technical. How does a large language model reshape the work of understanding? When does automation liberate, and when does it diminish? What happens to craft, to attention, to the slow accumulation of wisdom when machines can generate in seconds what once took years?

Our perspectives draw from philosophy, theology, cognitive science, and the practical realities of building and deploying AI systems. We’re equally at home discussing Bernard Lonergan’s theory of insight and the architecture of agentic workflows—because the gap between those conversations is narrower than it appears.

Based at the Catholic University of America, the Institute for AI & Emerging Technologies exists to form leaders who can navigate technological transformation with both competence and wisdom. This newsletter extends that mission: one dispatch each week, pursuing the questions that matter.
